The Kamikaze Cricket Club

(In memory of Russell Clegg)

Russell's Gallery

In July 1981 the late Russell Clegg organised a 'Folk Club Swap' with a difference. A 'friendly' cricket match took place on the Sunday afternoon followed by a buffet at Milnrow's Waggon Inn prior to the the start of the evenings Folk Club session, which was shared by both clubs.

Even though Russell ended the afternoon in Rochdale Infirmary, due to a cut head inflicted by a ball in the 4th delivery of the first over, this didn't prevent him not only appearing at the Folk Club at night but also going on to organise many more cricket matches for the now named 'Kamikaze Cricket Club' over the following years involving the Folk fraternity. They even included matches known as 'The Kamikazes On Tour.

These photos were taken during their first few games and have been included in Russell's memory.
